FO Friday Oriental Lily Tunic and an Owl

Mostly a photos post today because it's been a busy day and the children are off for the Easter holidays now so I'm not getting much time to myself! So without further waffling, here is my FO for today :-)

I added some simple flowers just for a bit of interest and to use up the last of the lilac yarn :-)

Here's some modelled pics from my little poser!

I've also made another owl. Colours chosen by my eldest girly, apparently this owl is called "Ella"

The not-so-teeny girl joining in with the photos turned 2 years old yesterday. I know it's a cliché but I really can't understand how we got here so soon! She seems so big now :-(

 Still a cheeky monkey though!

It's Wednesday!!

Only one more day before the Easter bank holiday weekend. I cannot WAIT! Especially being able to catch up on some sleep because I'm fed up of being woken at 6am by the children. Of course then the clocks change at the weekend so I guess the lie-ins won't last long :-S

Anyways, what do I have to share for WIP Wednesday? Well firstly, here is a cardigan that I mentioned yesterday. It's Capricious by Elena Nodel and it looks a bit strange here because not only is it upside down and bunched up on a too-small needle it is also written using "contiguous set-in sleeves" which look a bit odd at this stage! It will come together really nicely though :-)

The yarn is a 4ply Rowan Pure Wool in "Framboise"which sounds terribly exotic. I guess "purple" is a bit less inspiring perhaps? The colour in the photos is fairly true to life which is handy. My camera has low battery and is getting a bit old and tired now. Mr Soaring Sheep has promised me a digital SLR for my birthday next month, I am VERY excited about it!

My other project which I'm about to do some more work on now once I've finished this post is my scrappy blanket, it's looking rather big and wonderful now :-) I'm going to weave in the ends in one big go (or maybe several big go's) at the end so please excuse them for now. Not sure how much bigger I'm going to make it. I'm hoping I'll reach a point where it feels "right"

The last thing I want to show you is a special granny square design I learned from my Beyond the Square crochet book. I thought it was rather fun so I'll be including it in my scrappy blanket somewhere. I also fancy making several more and sewing them into a cushion, perhaps with a rainbow theme or something. So many ideas, so little time lol

Mojo kickstart

Been feeling a bit blah lately. I've finished the dress/tunic for my eldest but still haven't blocked it or sewn on the flower decorations I made. She's been wearing it loads though so that's always good. I'm disappointed with it though. I'll try to get it finished off for Friday.

The yarn I ordered to complete my scrappy blanket never arrived. Turns out the shop owner had "forgotten" about my phone call and her promise to ship the yarn to me that day. Two weeks later I asked for a full refund which was paid within the hour. I then ordered the yarn from Deramores so should receive it tomorrow or Thursday :-)

My current WIP I'll share photos of tomorrow but it's another of Elena Nodel's cardigan designs and I'm making it for me. It's knitted using 4-ply yarn so might take me a while!

Today I fancied a little bit of silly-ness so after being reminded by a post on Attic24 about this pattern from blogger Bunny Mummy's blog I decided to have a go at making my own owl :-)

Meet Geraldine :-)

She's took me barely two hours of on-off work most of which was taken up with sewing and weaving in ends. I've given her to Mr Soaring Sheep to take to work to brighten up his desk :-) I have a feeling I'll have to make a few more though as two of my children have already started picking out which colours they want for theirs! At least it will keep me busy over the Easter holidays if the weather doesn't improve and we're still stuck indoors...

WIP Wednesday

Wednesday already, time feels like it's flying at the moment! I've not really been knitting very much since finishing my shawl. I decided to do a bit of work on the arms of the dress yesterday but this is all I achieved:

IMAG0662

I tried it on my toddler the other day and as suspected somewhere my gauge or measurements have been completely off and it swamped her. I tried it on my petite 7 year old though and it fits fine so she's asked for 3/4 length sleeves and tunic length for the body. I'll probably just knit until I run out of yarn for the body. I feel more inclined to work on it now I know that it will get some use, I'll have to come up with something else for my almost 2 year old's birthday instead (2 weeks, 1 day to go!!)

I've also not been working on my granny square blanket very much either because I ran out of the blue yarn. Ordered some but the company accidentally sent me aran weight instead of the DK I needed. Phoned them up this afternoon though and they're letting me keep the aran and posting the DK on to me today. Rather impressed with that response!

They're not a company I've ordered from before but I found them though google because they make and sell their own shade cards for Stylecraft yarns. This is what they look like:

How useful is that?

FWIW they don't know about this post and I'm not being paid or anything. I just thought it was a good idea and wanted to share :-)

FO Friday Valentine's shawl

Some of you might remember that I've been joining in with the BooKnits MKAL on Ravelry. Well the KAL has now finished and the pattern has been released. I finished my shawl on Monday but have been waiting until now to show it off :-)

DSC06720

I'm so pleased with it, the colour, the beads, the pattern especially is beautiful

DSC06718

It's slightly less blocked looking in this photo as I've been wearing it every day since it dried lol

DSC06732

It was a bit different from the other Booknits shawls as it's all lace rather than having a garter or stockinette section. It was very straight forward to knit although there were a couple of new decreases I had to learn for working the purl-side rows. Worth it though :-)

DSC06733

The only row I had problems with was the last lace row but that was because I didn't realise I was supposed to be removing the stitch markers and stealing a stitch from the next repeat for a decrease. I just assumed I'd made a mistake somewhere. I need to have more faith in my lace knitting skills lol.

There will definitely be more Boo shawls in my future, they're so pretty and the patterns are so well written. I'd definitely recommend them for someone new to lace knitting to try.

Anyways, enough rabbiting on from me. For more FO's check out Tami's Amis, and thanks for dropping by :-)
